Washington University Sports Medicine

Washington University Orthopedics sports medicine physicians have a multidisciplinary treatment approach, working closely with physiatrists, physical therapists, athletic trainers, primary care sports medicine physicians, human performance experts and sports nutritionists to coordinate care and optimize an athlete’s recovery.

Treatment Approach

Our Sports Medicine service offers a conservative approach to treating the majority of injuries. Most patients can be successfully treated nonoperatively, with only one in 10 patients treated with surgery. If surgery is recommended for an injury, our trusted surgeons are skilled at both common and complex surgical procedures. Rehabilitation is tailored for each athlete’s injury and sport and includes a comprehensive program of motion and strengthening exercises individualized to each athlete.

Team Care—Be Treated Like A Pro

Washington University Orthopedics is the official medical provider for the St. Louis Blues, Washington University Varsity athletics, Lindenwood University Athletics and a number of local high schools. We also provide care for various athletic events such as the GO! St. Louis Marathon and local and national soccer events.

Patient Care

We are dedicated to providing the highest level of care and service to all athletes and their families, not just elite athletes. Whether you need surgery, therapy or reassurance that you can return to the gym or playing field, our sports medicine specialists are here for you.

Training Tomorrow’s Leaders

Washington University’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is proud to educate and train tomorrow’s orthopedic leaders. As national leaders in clinical care, education and research, we offer our trainees a diverse and supportive learning environment and opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills in advanced technology and the latest treatment modalities.
